Default How do I give my stock 1989 Honda Civic Hatchback some more hp?

I have a completely stock 1989 Honda civic hatchback dx, and i was looking to eventually customize the entire car. That means the interior exterior and under the hood. Anyone out there who knows what they're talking about and isn't going to talk mess have any ideas?

the older Civics were great cars in terms of basic transportation, but you won't be able to get any real power out of that thing unless you swap the motor or do a forced induction conversion(even then, it would be a good idea to swap in a B18 non-Vtec considering it has a lower compression ratio and it has a much higher base power reading). your stock motor made around 80hp if i remember correctly, and that was 23 years ago. even if you were to buy/install some minor bolt-ons(header, ecu chip, intake), you'd be spending close to $1000 for parts alone and probably only gain about 5-10hp. you wouldn't even notice a difference in acceleration.

You can definitely upgrade your civic to have tons of hp. Civic's are a popular car. People have done almost every imaginable thing with them. t really depends what kind of power your looking for. If you want just a few 100 hp more or so, get an RSX engine swap. It will be reliable and extremely powerful, mainly because you have a hatch that is really light. Otherwise get a b16c engine and do the turbo route. You will spend some more, but the power gains will be off the charts as to what the car has now. You can easily add 500-600 hp to the car if you do he build properly. Some Civics do 800hp with no problem. Again, it depends who and how they build it. Civic's are cheaper to build than other cars, mainly cuz theres so many of them. just decide what exactly it is you want, then look for the specifics..

first you want to do a engine swap cause your stock engine just aint got it. swat out to a B or H series maby a B16 VTEC. after that consider a turbo then thees parts

high flow exhaust system
new catalyst converter
cold air or short ram intake
new ECU
blow off valve
waste gate
turbo timer
and new transmission.
then high performance tires
new adjustable coilovers
for cosmetics
a body kit

recaro seats

race wheel sparco, momo what ever brand you want

new pedals and shifter knob

that should cover basics other than that what ever you want

Keep a vey clean air filter, get it rear disk brakes, change spark plugs to ngk. always change your oil every month. Get some newer Si fuel injectors and and put a performance timing belt. and change most engine parts from stock, to duralast parts from autozone. Their parts have bronze and alumminum fused and weight less than stock parts. alternator, air intake pipe. Etc. youre basically going from old stock to new stock. it adds alot of hp stock. and youre saving alot of gas.
