Default 2005 Honda CR-V: check engine light & VSA lights on?

Check engine light and VSA lights come on. Two mechanics independent mechanics can't find a problem. One mechanic finds something wrong with the crank shaft sensor. Dealer says it's the timing chain. My car has 83,000 miles. There is NO way it's the timing chain. What else can it be?

timing chain will go bad if the oil has not been changed or low all the time. the timing chain tensioner is based on oil pressure. if u have been ignoring oil changes and not checking your oil u may have a big problem. take it to a dealership. if the chain is out of phase (only honda scan tools say this) than u need a chain and tensioner ($$$$)

check engine light would have nothing to do with VSA (vehicle stability asist).

i hate to say it but this sounds like a job for the dealership

Krazy is right. If the oil changes have been neglected, then the timing chain can stretch causing an Out of phase code. I had a TSX which has the same engine pop this code with under 100,000 miles on it. Fixing it would require a new chain and tensioner.

As far as the VSA light, that could be set due to an engine malfunction. Sometimes the code for the VSA will come back as "Engine malfunction"
