Default overheating engine in my Honda Accord?

My car is a 1997 Honda but I take great care of it. I change my oil on time etc. Yesterday on my way home, my engine began to overheat, I mean, the needle just suddenly swung right up into the red. I pulled over and shut down instantly. and called my mechanic. He told me to put anti-freeze into the radiator. Now here's the issue: my radiator is full, it has No leaks (we checked eventually), both fans ARE working and all seems well. When I got towed back to his shop, we drove to see if it would happen again. Of course, it didn't so I left for home. As soon as I hit the spot at which it had occurred previously, it happened again! But this time I took photos because he would never believe me. When it had cooled enough, I drove back to him again, showed him the photos and finally, he followed me halfway home and of course, nothing else happened. My question is, is there something we're missing that might cause my car to overheat just like that? Any help at all appreciated. Thanks!

You could have a faulty temperature gauge.

Sounds like the coolant temperature switch is faulty, Or the gauge is not working right..
