Slowly ease your foot off clutch. Car will begin to move backwards due to fuel injection system, fuel pump, etc. Be careful, and take a pal who drives stick along to help the first time or two.

Ease off the clutch. When you put it in gear, shifting gears, or starting the engine you have to push in the clutch all the way in. However, when you have it in gear, 1st gear or reverse, you don't need to push in the clutch all the way. There is about a 4 inch gap until the clutch can catch. If you are on flat leveled road, you can just let the clutch hook without giving it gas (pretty slow though good if you're in leveled a garage). If you're on a hill facing down or up, you need apply a little gas quickly so you don't roll. Or you can do the parking brake trick where when you know you engage the gear you can let go of the parking brake, however you generally don't need that much gas in reverse.

It's pretty much the same thing as engaging first gear.

Try practicing start and stop in first gear, and do the same in reverse. When you get it going in reverse, ease off the gas and push in the clutch again so you don't stall.

Press in clutch all the way and then slowly release it while giving the car gas.

How I learned was to slowly let the clutch out, looking for that point when your car wants to go. The friction point!

Do this a couple of times. You'll stall out several times when you pass the friction point, but soon you'll get it.

That friction point, where your car wants to go is when you slowly start giving the car gas while releasing the clutch.
