Default Should I be concerned about this Civic?

I'm looking to buy a used 2006 Civic Si. It looks like it's in great condition. Interior/Exterior. I have two concerns, however. He said it sometimes has trouble starting when it's really cold outside and he just had a brand new OEM clutch installed. He also said the brake pads may need replacing. This Si only has 75K miles.

What do you guys think? Was he gunning it often? (I have yet to test drive.. 200 miles away from me but it's a really good price.)

Okay thanks for the replies. He now says the thermostat needs replacing too. He talks about how he had plans to do a hondata ecu, exhaust, ect. There is another SI with 86K miles at a dealership that looks like it has never been abused at all but wouldnt come with the warranty.. decisions decisions. It's 2K more.

If he's never replaced the battery then it may be hard starting when cold due it's age. A battery is usually good for about 5 or 6 years at most. Brake pads are common wear and tear items so I wouldn't sweat that. Hondas have a reputation for longevity and durability. Be sure to get it inspected by a mechanic before purchasing it though.

Buying used cars is both a science and an art. If this is worth looking into then you must go and test drive the car by yourself. If you zero experience in buying an used car take someone with you that has experience. A detailed account of repairs and servicing is a must. And cars with specific troubles, such as the starting in cold weather issue this one one must be checked out. Best of luck.

New clutch at 75K miles is a bad sign - he has been abusing it for certain. There are other Civics out there.

I have an 08 SI. Once you go I-VTEC once its kind of alluring. Gunning it? You betcha! Yeah, worn out clutch and brakes on an 06 w/75K means he loves to punch it and slam on the brakes before he hit something or someone. If he did the maintenance it might be ok otherwise, but no guarantees that is what you will get with this car. The starting problem could be anything even an old battery or a bad battery cable.

There really are lots of used cars even SI's around. Keep looking.

ya, my 08 civic si sometimes takes a sec tostart on cold mornings after sitting all night.. pretty sure its just the battery is starting to go.. and if you look, its the smallest car battery ive ever seen, so i imagine it being slightly underpowered would give that affect... also keep in mind at 100k miles is when u need to change spark plpugs in the Si also, it has denso irdium long life... but at 75k they are def getting to the end of their life span...

either way thats just genreal mainteance.. the Si is a great reliable car.. honestly 75k is just breakig the motor in...

honestly its an Si... it revs to 8200 rpms stock... im sure hes taken it to 8k atleast a few times in its life... but thats what the car was made to do...
