The entire gauge cluster receives digital signals even though it may have analog gauges. The speedometer receives a signal from the vehicle speed sensor (VSS), which is found threaded into the transmission (most likely somewhere around the output shaft area). If the VSS was bad, the speedometer would not work at all. If your odometer is LED or LCD, chances are it is burning out and you will need to replace the entire cluster and transfer the chip that holds the current odometer reading to the new cluster.

It is electronic. You don't mention a check engine light so the VSS is probably okay - that leaves the speedometer itself to blame. That era Honda speedometers are not particularly reliable... some people have fixed them by replacing the capacitors in the speedometer.

EDIT - with the check engine light coming on it will probably be the VSS. You can verify it by having the codes read at most chain auto parts stores, except in California. Apparently the sensor is a Hall efect device because the manual for the 1993 Accord offers only voltage tests, not resistance, and the tests are probably more trouble than trying a VSS from a wrecking yard.
