Default I hit a bird & need to replace the hood on my Honda Civic for cheap?

I'm selling my 05' Honda Civic Special Ed. soon, the final step is getting the hood replaced after hitting a huge Vulture on the highway I'm not looking to put much into it, obviously --- what's my best option for getting this thing repaired?? The dent has been looked at by an "unofficial" auto body guy who used to do that type of work he said it's so deep/sharp you couldn't get it pulled out -- best bet was to replace the hood entirely + have it painted. Should I order the part online myself then take it to have it painted?? I'm looking for "least expensive" so $200-300 max for the whole job (cost of hood + quality painting). Is this a realistic figure??

Super confused...

Any/all help is REALLY appreciated!!!

it will cost more than 300 to only paint it, not including what you pay for the hood., try finding the same color in a junk yark or on ebay, you may get lucky

yeah,, find one in a junk yard. that is the same color. .. then all you have to do is unbolt the old one and bolt on the new used one. that is what i would do.

who ever told you could buy a new hood and have it installed and painted for 200 is smoking crack, and drinking 40`s..

Junk yard - sounds bad, but absolutely true. Where I live we have a place called Pull-A-Part, which is AMAZING! It has plenty of cars that have been totaled, but still have functional parts on them. They charge less than half the price of buying new, and like the guys said it'll be so much simpler to find one the same color as yours and just unbolt from old one and bolt to yours. Good luck. I know it can be a huge hassle.

Take it to MAACO and get an estimate. They're having a sale until the end of the month.

This is definitely a wrecking yard job. The minor catch is to do it right you have to get a hood with the correct VECI label under the hood and that varies unpredictably. You will probably have to let that go and just get a hood from the same generation (2003-2007) with the same color. Removing or installing the hood is fairly easy but is a two person job, and aligning the hood takes patience (it is aligned by loosening and retightening the bolts that hold the hood). Lower the hood gently until it is aligned to avoid scarring the fenders near the hood!
