Default Honda Civic Alarm System?

My battery died in my 2008 honda civic and when I got it jumped off the alarm immediately went off and would not go off regardless if i hit the panic button on keyless entry or not. It went off after the car had ran for a few minutes; however, as soon as I arrived home after a 20 mile drive and cut the engine off the alarm came back on. I disconected the battery. The question I want answered is this: Is this most likely a worn out battery that needs replacing and therefore not a big deal, or is something wrong with my alarm system?
