Default My car just began blowing blue smoke, how can I be sure what the problem is?

It's a 88 Accord Lxi with 179000 mi. I haven't had any problems with it, though when I had to replace power steering hose from the rack n pinion replaced this had no leakes, I noticed oil leaking and its not the hose but buy the oil pan underneath what could it be and I just had the emissions failed due to High idle test co2 failed so i put mid grade gas drove till empty and today I went to go warm it up began blowing blue smoke i stopped the motor and checked the oil was little low i started it and smoke for second helpppp

come to think about it i was checking vaccume leaks for the air intake and i bet i pinched PRV valve

Blue smoke is usually caused by burning oil, either through worn rings on the pistons, worn valve seals, or a plugged PCV system allowing oil to enter the intake somewhere. The external leaks you describe do not correlate to the smoke, unless they are near the intake manifold and could be leaking into it.

blue smoke coming out the tailpipe? it could be valve seals or the drain holes clogged up under the valve pan. oil pumps up but can,t drain back into the oil pan so it goes around the valve seals and runs on the valves. same way with valve seals. they could be bad and letting oil run down on the valves. if it smokes all the time then i would say bad rings. it could be the reason why it,s low is because the oil is laying under the valve pan.

Bad valve seals or piston rings.have a compression test done. This will determine how bad the rings are worn.if not then its the valve seals. The mileage is high for a gasoline engine. This is common for an engine with high miles no matter how well you baby the car.

I've always heard blue smoke means the rings.
