Sounds like the 02 (oxygen) sensor.

Could be the O2 sensor like Cesar said but when was the last time you had a minor tune-up done?

Spark plugs (and wires)

Distributor cap and rotor

Air filter

It can be a number of things, simplest being a really dirty air filter. If it was me, I'd replace the above parts if it hasn't been done in the past 50,000 miles at least (air filter could/should be replaced more frequently).

O2 sensors can be expensive.
