Default Could VTEC activating cause more gas output?

Okay so I just got a new CAT converter and 02 censors for my civic. And it is very rare for VTEC to kick in, but when it does it seems like a few miles down the road the engine light comes on, and when I put it on the OBD it says that my CAT is bad. Which makes absolutely no since because it just got a new one? Anybody know what this could be about?

Check the MAF sensor and the O2 sensor.

You are getting an overly rich condition for some reason.

check your manifold for a small hairline crack, usually hidden by the tin heat shield so you have to remove it. my niece had this to happen and it drove several "mechanics" crazy trying to find the cat problem when there wasn't one............remove the tin cover, crank the engine and let it idle, check carefully with a candle or a grill lighter, the leak, though usually inaudible will blow out a small flame. or use a piece of hose to listen through, sometimes you can hear vacuum and exhaust leaks like that
