Default Ac compressor on 01 Honda civic?

My whole ac compressor went out on my car and it was making a sound but was still driving. Yesterday my car wouldn't switch over to turn on, it just shakes, squeals and smells like burning rubber. I thought that meant it was a belt. My dad looked at it and the belts he can see were fine. Would this be related to my ac compressor? I called Honda and was told that if the pulley for it stops working it will rub against the belts and may not turn on. But the repair is 1,000. I don't care if I have ac, I just want my car to run. Any suggestions?

Just take off the belt, as long as your alt. Belt is still on you will be ok
