Default First Car: Honda Civic 2010 (Regular V.S. SI)?

Well i'm thinking of buying my very first car in 2014 (I'll be 18) I want to buy a Honda Civic but still am not sure whether to buy the regular 140hp model or the SI with 200hp. Of course I'm a teen I'd like a sporty car but is the SI really worth the Fuel Economy headache? In other words is it better to just buy the model with 140hp and just customize it a little (lowering it, add a spoiler, cold air intake, exhaust) also it gets Outstanding Fuel Economy! OR is the S.I. a better choice (the only thing discouraging me from getting the SI is the difference in fuel economy)

In my opinion Honda Civic already has a pretty amazing fuel economy. I think another important question is if you can drive manual. The Si is only available in manual whereas the regular has the option for automatic. Also if you do buy the regular Civic make sure you take a look at the upgrades! The basic model doesn't come with AC or power windows if I remember and that's almost a necessity these days.

So you are going to buy the standard model to save money on gas only to spend that money you saved on gas instead on making it a poor imitation of the Si?

How much sense does that make?

If you want the fun car buy the fun car.

If you want to save money on gas get the grocery getter.

Either one will get you from A to B.

But I have to second the thought that it is ridiculous to buy the boring version of a car and try to make it into a sportier car when Honda already do a much better job of making a sportier version.
