Default 2003 accord lx sedan heat issues

i'm wondering if anyone can help. i recently changed the heater control valve and since then it seems that the blend control has gone out. when i change from cool to hot, i can hear a "thunk" under the instrument cluster then the heat magically appears, if no "clunk" then it stays cold. is this just coincidental or did i miss something in changing the heater valve. also could this have anything to do with the after market stereo i installed due to the factory one dying. i installed it below the climate controls, and because of this, none of the climate controls light up, but up until now they always seemed to function properly. the stereo has been in all summer. thanks for any help.
