Default can i fit these tires on a 04 s2000?

correct me if im wrong, stock sizes are 215/45/17 front and 245/40/17 rear for an AP2. can you put larger tires on the same wheels? i want 225/45 front and 255/40's rear. thinking about getting hankook rs-3's, any suggestions on good cheap tires?

Car is under-steering hard thought it might help if i had more grip in the front. Many other s2000 drivers suggested I go 225's front to help out. And yes I've heard of "you get what you pay for", I wasn't born yesterday. I just meant best for the money. Reliable and not too expensive. Just wanted quick thoughts and opinions instead of searching through countless forums. Sometimes engineers need to be second guessed. Remember an incident with Toyota and sticky acceleration pads? Engineers aren't always right.

First off, "cheap" and "good" are often mutually exclusive terms. Have you ever heard the expression "You get what you pay for"? It's usually true. Read Consumer Reports, Car and Driver, and/or other enthusiast websites if you want independent tire ratings and prices.

Second, why do you "want" wider tires? Are you trying to second-guess the engineers with hundreds of combined years of experience who decided that those were the best tire sizes for the vehicle?

Last, if somehow you are running the S2000 in SCCA's STR Class, 255/40R17's are required on all four wheels. So yes, technically the one-centimeter-wider tires you "want" will fit. However, you really have to consider why you "want" to go with a nonstandard size for little if any benefit.
