Default How can i tell if my civic engine is VTEC or not?

I have a 2004 honda civic EX sedan. It has a 1.7L 4 cylinder engine in it that says VTEC, but i read somewhere that that doesnt always mean that it has VTEC. I've put that car through some abuse over the years and i haven't heard the VTEC kick in

An EX should have a vtec in it. Rev it up to 5~6000 rpm and see if it kicks in. If not then maybe the solenoid is busted.

look on the back left side of the motor for the solonoid, if its there its vtec, and if its a sohc vtec its only vtec on the intake side of the valves so you cant exactly hear it, the ones you can distinctly hear are the dohc vtec engines
