my 98 civic is an automatic but id rather have a manual but my dad says I cant get another car because I just bought mine 3 months ago. At least $4500. The vehicle in perfect, mint condition is worth $3600. Forget it-live with the auto. If you think a manual will make it a sports car, it wont, especially if you don't have VTEC.

Your automatic transmission is going to be essentially worthless. You have to get it out of your vehicle (at least $500 in labor just to remove it), then find someone who wants it and will come pick it up. They might give you $250, if you're lucky-at u-pull-it you can get these for $200, and you can get them shipped to your house on ebay for a total of $500.

So forget selling the old transmission.

New transmission $200 at u-pull-it, but that means YOU pull it. Purchased via a shop-at least $900-1200 for the part + clutch +pedal + hydraulics + installation + wiring + sensors (at least $1500 labor because of the modifications required-many hours of labor) + weeks without your car.

The holes for the clutch, shifter, etc are there and capped from the factory.

So, maybe $4500 to have it professionally done, $2500 to have an amateur cobble something together.

Definitely not worth it-I'm selling one of these for cars for $2500 (on which I did an engine swap, som I'm familiar with them) and that is far less then you'd pay for what you to do-not to mention modding a car that extensively has to be done by someone that is a professional with experience or you're asking for an unending series of issues. There are also computer issues involved.

Also, if you have an AT then you probably do not have VTEC, and that makes a bigger difference..

Forget it.

It is very possible to do it for all under $2000. Hell I wouldn't charge you more than $1200 for labor if you had me do it and I'm sure plenty of other enthusiast would charge you the same. If you use mostly used parts then that will save you a good chunk of change. This swap is a no brain-er and has been completed numerous times. I don't understand why people are telling you not to do it. It's a fun project and you learn a few things out of it. But I do want to say that if you're unwilling to do the project yourself than you might as well just stick to what you got. Completing a project is a reward in itself. A lot of people spend thousands of dollars for labor on their cars only to sell them for a fraction of the car's value. This job could be done in your garage with basic tools, a helms manual and a hoist. It's not rocket science. Get off your as..s and get your hands dirty.
