Default Car Air filters for a honda?

Can I replace my air cleaner box that holds my air filter with a Cold Air Intake ( aftermarket intake) with Filter for a 02 civic ex? Do they have the same purpose? Why should I buy one over the other?

Sure, as long as the intake tubing is airtight & the sensors are installed.

yes that it what a cold air intake is meant to replace, as long as yoou install it right, you shouldnt have any issues. i am not trying to scare you, but with a cold air intake, you must becareful. make sure you do not drive in water that is higher then the bottom of your bumpers. as that could lead to hydrolock, and you dont want to deal with that. if your going to get a cold air intake, i suggest the brand injen, and while your at it, get one of the injen Cold air intake hydro sheilds for $24 more. it gives you extra piece of mind when driving around puddles.

after the cold air intake, if you wanted to continue performance, a Header and atleast catback exhaust would be your next steps, then get it tuned.
