By Toyota I guess you mean Prius. You can get a new one for $23K depending on options. Mileage is 51/48 city/hwy.

The Civic hybrid is a bit pricier, but you should be able to get a stripper for $23K if you bargain. Mileage is 44/44 so a tad worse.

But the Civic may be a more fun car to own and drive, if that means anything to you. Prius seems the better bargain.

I'd go for Honda Civic, a used Honda Civic is enough. Honda has proven their quality and durability, even if it's used or was in heavy duty/long drive. you don't have to worry.

The Prius is a little bit better than the civic as far as mpg but not much. I'd go for the Civic hybrid as you don't feel as if your driving as hybrid and the stigma that you get with the prius. But both are great choices!
