Default 1992 Civic Si HB Won't Crank

Here's the deal:

When you turn the key, the lights come on, but nothing happens. No crank from the starter. We were able to bump start it & get it home, so it runs fine.

I was thinking starter, but when you run a wire from the starter to the battery, the starter cranks fine. This eliminates the starter & battery.

When the key is in start position, I have 12 volts on the Black/White wire under the dash (coming out of the ignition switch) but when I check that same wire at the starter, there's no voltage when the key is in start position.

I tried jumping a wire across the terminals of the clutch switch, & that has no effect.

I cannot find a fuse blown under the dash or under the hood.

Is there a relay I should be checking? If so, where's the likely location of this relay?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Default Re: 1992 Civic Si HB Won't Crank

OK, I fixed it myself. Here's the deal:

Turns out this Civic has TWO clutch pedal switches. The one I bypassed was (I think) for the Cruise Control (not that it works anymore!)

The REAL clutch "Safety Switch" is waaaaaaaay up on the clutch pedal. When I finally got my head down there in a position so I could see, I unplugged it, inserted a wire in the socket between the terminals & it cranked right up! Turns out the switch itself wasn't even bad...there's a plastic insert in the clutch pedal that was broken, so the plunger on the switch wasn't being pressed down. I replaced that with a bolt & problem solved!

The moral of the story is...clutch switches can be verrry decieving!
