My wife had a 2005 Civic EX (same body style, engine) and she averaged around 35 mpg per tank, with mostly highway driving. City driving was probably around 28-30 mpg. She was also a very conservative driver.

Fuel economy varies per person and per car. The vehicle's maintenance, tire pressure, tire condition, wheel size, and amount of stuff in the car (people, junk in the trunk, etc) will all play big factors with fuel mileage.

Check fueleconomy.gov for more specific numbers and ways you can improve your gas mileage.

The Feds say 25/34. And the way things work, if you drove exactly the same pattern as is done in the EPA test, you would get the same 25/34. Since nobody ever does that or is even in a position to do that, your mileage, as the saying goes, may vary.

The sticker on this car when it was new probably said 29/38, but in 2008 they revised the methodology and applied the appropriate fudge factor to all pre-08 models. (My own car, stickered at 20/28, is now officially 17/25.)
