Default 2004 Honda Accord EX Temp Gauge

The temp gauge on my car keeps going up (close to red) when I idle. It will start to drop as soon as I start driving. This just started happening and I am afraid to drive as I have a fear of breaking down on the 2 lane road I take to work. Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this?
