Default Adding a Tachometer to a 99 Honda Civic DX?

I'm looking at buying a 99 civic DX which doesn't have a tachometer because of its model. I'm not great at driving standard by ear so I really like being able to see my RPMs. I know that I can replace the gauge cluster and that it is a "plug and play" operation from reading civic forums but I have no idea where to start.

What kind of gauge cluster should I get?

Can I just add a tachometer to the existing setup?

Since it doesn't have a tachometer to start with is the wiring harness going to be compatible with a cluster that does?

And can anyone who has done this give a step by step?

Thanks,

- J

No, there ain't a way to add a tech to a civic. to add 1, u have to swap the whole cluster harness. best thing to do is go to Advance or Autozone and get a Autometer 5 inch tech. they sell em for like $115 or get on ebay and find a cheaper used one. i had a silver 99 civic DX and i wired one up bc mine didn't have one either. theres 4 wires. power, ground, tech light, and Rpm signal. if u buy one the instructions are included.

Any cluster from 96-00 will fit. Just unscrew everything and unplug it then install in reverse order. That's the cheapest and easiest route. 15 min process. You can also purchase an aftermarket gauge that displays the rpm and mount that, but it's not the 90's anymore so don't.
