Default honda accord won't shift out of park?

Accord year 2000 placing foot on brake the shift lever won't come out of park. Is there an interlock switch operated by the brake pedal ? If so where is it located ?

More than likely in the shifter itself.

Never owned a honda but,i'm sure they're all basically the same. The switch is more than likely located behind the arm of the brake pedal on the floor. There's 2 switches, the other one's for the brake lights. To test it get a wire with alligator clips on both ends, strip a little of the insulation on the wire on both sides of the switch. Clip the wire on to by pass the switch,if it works, replace the switch or just by pass it permanently. Good Luck

Its operated by the brake light switch. There are no mechanical linkage or cables that go to the brake pedal. If you look closely at the shifter there is a small plastic cover next to the shifter pop the small cover out and put the key into the slot where the cover was. That will unlock the shifter and allow you to take the car out of park...if there is no small cover or can't get the plug out then pull the plastic trim ring out that is around the shifter. You can use any thin piece of plastic like an old credit card and remove the trim ring around the shifter and you will see the slot where you put the key. Its on the upper part of the shifter next to the park position. But keep in mind that if the car wont come out of park when you step on the brake your brake lights are probably not working. These cause is a faulty brake light switch and your rear brake light are not working...good luck I hope this was helpful
