Default Does my Honda civic have the D16y7 or the D16y8?

I have a 1998 honda civic si. It is the Canadain model. I am wondering what engine my civic has in it.

I understand that the D16y7 is the non vtec engine and that the d16y8 is the vtec engine.

I have previously decoded my Vin. All it has told me is that it is a 1.6L l4 16v.

Is there a way to tell by looking at them or is there a code somewhere?

Help would be very appreciated

Look on the engine block. The engine code is stamped right there to the left of the exhaust manifold right below the engine head.

However you have a D16Y8.

Yep. code is on the block, square flat bit on the left front. You'll probably need a scraper to reveal it under the muck.
