Default Why isn't vtec kicking in?

I have a 1992 Honda Civic Hatchback with a D15b vtec and it isn't kicking in. It has a p30 skunk 2 ecu and is programmed for vtec to kick in a 3500 rpm. I was wondering if anybody could tell me why isn' it coming in. it used to hit pretty hard but not working anymore at all. The speed sensor is good i thought maybe it has something to do with the wiring but not sure.

first off isnt 3500 a little low for vtec? check to make sure theres no shavings caught up in the vtec solenoid gasket that could cause oil restriction to your vtec thus preventing it from kicking in.

Btw vtec hitting hard isnt healthy for the engine vtec is supposed to be a smooth crossover

Holy, 3500 is way low. Why so low? These little 4valve/4cylinder engines thrive off of RPM. Upgrade the valve train, re-program the rev-limiter and fuel cut-off and get up to those 8,000+ RPMs.

VTEC was built for those high RPMs, not low RPMs like where you currently have the crossover. The VTEC lobes will actually cause a performance LOSS at those RPMs. You need to reprogram the VTEC crossover to a higher point and see if that doesn't help.

Low oil pressure, faulty coolant temp sensors, clogged screen in the VTEC solenoid, incorrectly wired ECU, will all cause VTEC to not become active.

Secondly VTEC in those single cam engines should not "hit hard". It should be a smooth crossover, anything else indicates a problem.

And third, you said, "it used to hit pretty hard but not working anymore at all"

What exactly was done to the car shortly before this issue appeared?
