Default Buying a Honda 95 civic DX help?

Now I'm buying a honda 95 civic DX (auto) now my question other than knowing that Honda's are good cars. Is it a good buy for 1,700$. I dont know much about cars and what to look for. But I will be test driving it soon. My question WHAT SHOULD I LOOK FOR when I test drive it. Are they good on gas? How about maintenance if something goes wrong? Are parts cheap?

You should have a mechanic look it over to look for signs of neglect, abuse, or problems in general. They are good on gas and relatively inexpensive to repair as long as its not a big ticket item (engine, transmission) to begin with - that's why you should have it looked at.

As for whether it's a good deal, not enough information, you would have to give location, mileage, condition, options, etc.

Look for leaks, odd noises, any pull in the steering wheel (alignment). Just overall health of the car.

Look at the oil and make sure it's got oil at the point where it's supposed to be and that it doesn't look/feel old.

Also since it's an automatic, pull the transmission dipstick out and check that transmission fluid. It should be a nice red color, if it's a light brown it's okay but should be changed immediately. If the fluid is a dark brown or black color just walk away from the car cause that transmission is near the end of it's life.

Also ask the owner if they have any records of the last timing belt change, if they don't and you get the car you should have it changed as soon as possible.
