Default HONDA paint codes...?

could anyone enlighten me on whats up with these color codes. I have a few colors in mind that i would like to paint my del sol. 08 civic Fiji blue pearl.. there is two codes B529P and B529P-4 they look pretty much the same to me but I need to know if there is a difference. I notice they do this with a lot of the paint codes like 97 civic vogue silver metallic has four codes, NH583M, NH583M-2, NH583M-4, NH583M-5, they all look the same to me the only thing I can guess is different layers of clear coat or something.

and don't say oh just get the color code that you like the best, these are samples, not actual paint on the car. thank you in advance

The extra digits correspond to the plants where these vehicles were originally built. There are slight differences in the basic color, called variants. Different plants will have slightly different variations of the same color. It will not make a huge difference unless you are trying to match an existing color. If you are doing an overall repaint, you CAN select whichever you like best, just keep track of the variant you use, in case you need to match it later for touch-up or crash repair.

Your B529P can be in 4 or H, and 5 or L variants. The 4 and H variants are for cars built in Canada, and the 5 and L variants are for the Ohio-built cars. Different paint manufacturers refer to them with either the letter or number. They also correspond to the 11th digit of the VIN.

The NH583M has 2 and S variants (Japan), and 4 and H (Canada again).

Again, this is only crucial when trying to accurately match an original factory finish, and for your purposes, select one you like and keep track of which one you are using. They are close enough to each other that you wouldn't notice the difference unless the chips were side-by side.
