Default Can you have HID lights without a ballast?

i just bought some HID lights bulbs for my 96 accord they are 55w 5000k xenon bulbs do i need a ballast?















i just wanna hook em up right now i dont have money to buy the ballast just yet so can i plug them into the factory bulb plug till i get the ballast

No....To have true HID you have to have a ballast.

the key words to your item is 55W... those are "simulated" HID poser bulbs, right? because TRUE HID runs higher than 55w































the other key word you said they are Xenon gas bulbs... sure a bit better than Halogens, but still not TRUE HID lights































agree with other reply, true HID are like spark plugs inside a housing... & thus needs a ballast to make it happen

No, the HID ballast sends a strike voltage of 20kv and then manages the bulb with 85-150 volts, without a ballast and the complicated electronics it has inside, you cannot operate an HID bulb































Be sure to use 55w ballast
