im 17 going on 18. i want my car to go almost as fast as it looks. its an automatic and it has 140hp, i dont know how much torque. i dont know alot about cars. and everyone thinks air intakes dont do anything. id like faster response and acceleration. im on a budget so i cant put in a manual tran. if i could add 30hp for 500 id be happy. thanks. if you dont know alot about cars dont answer.

Well most of the mod's that will give you a noticiable increase in acceleration are usually expensive (engine transmission modification), then you have your mod's that are easy to put on and usually pretty cheap which includes cold air intake, performance muffler's and exhaust systems and chips. For about 500 i would get cold air intake from K&N, a magnaflow or flowmaster muffler and just your average chip. Chips can add anywhere from 10-50 hp easy for a reasonable price. Thing about cold air intake systems they do add a LITTLE bit of HP but only at higher RPM's which unless your going super fast you won't be able to control since you have an automatic. if you had some mechanical exp you could do some great engine mod's for 500, but mechanics are pricy. Also please don't rice it completely out, a huge spoiler or a fart can exhaust etc.

Looks like you're not going to be happy for a long time.

You're driving a sub-2.0L car (probably 1.6 but I'm too lazy to look it up). Meaning any air modifications (intake or exhaust side) won't do anything. Air modifications work for high displacement and turbo/supercharged applications.

You can add 30hp by swapping in another engine or adding forced induction...that's it. Throwing money at a losing cause will only make your next car that much crappier because you won't have the money to buy a better car.

With $500 30hp will never happen, not even 10hp. But you can either get an Intake system, Header, or Exhaust system. Whichever you choose, your looking at maybe 3-5 whp...if your lucky and it's not enough that you'll actually feel the power "increase".

Honda's are the most expensive cars to bring the power up on, so if your on a budget, best to leave it alone and take it as it is.

Avoid the cheap eBay "performance" part knock-offs. They're cheap for a reason.

If this is an OBD-II vehicle (1996+) you need to make sure that no matter what you change, all the stock components (like air hoses and connections) remain hooked up or you're gonna be looking at a bright CEL from now on and an illegally modified car.
