An insurance company might be able to answer that question to the penny for you

I don't know exactly about insurance but the MR2 spyder will probably be higher because it is a convertible. The Del Sol's targa isn't as dangerous in a rollover. Yeah, I know, who rolls an MR2 right? I don't make this stuff up though. The insurance companies do. Power output is low on both so no problems there but I would suspect the MR2's rear wheel drive is considered more risky than the del sol's front wheel drive. Overall I would expect both numbers to be very reasonable though. It isn't like you are buying a Corvette or something.

I have to personally recommend the Del Sol for other reasons.

The MR2 is like Lotus Elise weight and well, you don't have a trunk in the back to throw sand bags in during the winter to increase your traction since it is RWD. If you live somewhere where it snows it will be basically undriveable. In regards to storage space in general, you would think you get all of that space under the hood as a trunk for the MR2 right? Wrong. You get a plastic molding that is maybe 1/3 or 1/4 of the total area. The rest is taken up by mechanical components. You also get a few tiny compartments behind the seats but that's it.

Meanwhile, the Del Sol has a trunk in the rear that has been described as "much larger than you would think" by many Del Sol owners. I looked it up and it is one cubic foot smaller than the trunk in my 1994 Civic. It also has a small storage compartment behind each seat. Now, you aren't going to be able to haul a bookshelf in either one but you can at least put a luggage case or a golf bag in a Del Sol without it having to ride shotgun. The Honda is no porker either but it has a few hundred pounds on the MR2 and it will basically be similar to a regular Civic in the snow. Also, the fuel economy rating on a 1994 del sol is 30/37 mpg compared to 22/27 on a 2002 MR2 (both manual transmission). You will save a ton of money in gas.

If all you care about is autocross, get the MR2. It performs better. For a real world car, the Del Sol is much better and it is still a lot of fun. I too considered the MR2 because I don't have to deal with snow but decided against it because it would have been my only car and it should have its picture in the dictionary next to the word "impractical". I have been looking for a low mileage Del Sol for years and still am. It is literally the definition of what a fun but practical daily driver should be. It's a shame Honda isn't smart enough to make a new one or even start making the old ones again. I would buy one no questions asked...
