Default rebuild or replace D16 88 CRX SI?

88 CRX SI, I have a D16 in the car, what would be the cheaper way to go, rebuild or replace with a B16.

Also, what all is usually done during a rebuild, whats replaced and whats a ballpark figure for the engine rebuild

It would be cheaper to replace the engine with another D series or to just rebuild that one.

Not sure exactly all the things that are replaced in a normal rebuild but I think you can actually purchase "rebuild kits" where they've already gotten all the parts together for you, it's just a question of how reliable the parts actually are.

A B16 would run you roughly 1000-1500 unless you happen to just have a sweet hook up or something.

Geno is right but that depends on what is needed for the rebuild. I would just swap it with a JDM D16 and call it a day.

It really depends what is required for the rebuild, and if you're doing the labor yourself. Machine shops can easily charge $200-$600+ just for assembly. You add that to the price of piston rings, bears, and various gaskets and seals, that can add up very quickly. 1st gen B16 swap are costly also after you factor in mounts, shift linkages, etc. My b16 swap cost about $3000 even though the motor and transmission cost $1700 after shipping. My suggestion would be to set a budget and work with in your budget. There are plenty cost efficient options such as JDM d15bs, ZCs, or b18a/b swap. I would suggest considering those motors as options also.

I'm a owner on a 1988 CRX Si wit
