Honda issued their first version of Honda Civic in 1973 featuring a four-cylinder engine, which has been the standard ever since.

If I'm not mistaken, most modern cars come with a four-cylinder engine, except for sports cars which might have 6 to 12 cylinders.

All 1997 Civics in the States, but the Si came with some variation of the D16. The Si came with a B16. They are both 1.6L 4 cylinder engines.

All factory Honda Civics are 4 cylinders. The only Civics you will find with more, the motors will have been swapped out and will more than likely have had a huge amount of work put in to them. The 1997 Honda Civic used a D-series motor (all 4 cylinders) and are really pretty good motors.
