Anything over 100K isn't worth the money. I wouldn't pay over 2000 for a 97 with that many miles.

Check the carfax history of the car.177000 miles is a lot of wear and tear on the engine (if someone doesn't take care of the car and doesn't get regular tuneups after 10000 miles).

My suggestion is to buy a Honda with the carfax report with it. Honda is the best low emission car.

P.S. Is your question about is it a good idea to buy a used 1997 Honda Civic if it has 177000, miles.

Or

You want to know MPG average after 177000 miles?

I WILL TELL U FROM EXPERIENCE...ALL I BUY IS HONDAS BECAUSE THEY ARE AWESOME ON MILEAGE....HONDAS CAN GO UP TO 350,000 MILES AND MORE.....MY HONDA ACCORD 97' HAS 299,600 MILES ON IT....MY CIVIC 02' HAS 149,000(MY LIL SISTER IS CURRENTLY DRIVING IT) AND MY CAR(MY EVERYDAY CAR) IS ACCORD EX 06' HAS 60,000......IS I STILL DRIVE ALL OF THEM OUT OF TOWN.....HONDAS ARE THE BEST.....BUT THE 06' IS THE HIGHEST ON GAS WHICH IS $37....BUT I USE UNLEADED PLUS NOT REGULAR UNLEADED IN MY CARS....ITS A BETTER GRADE TRUST???

177k miles is NOTHING for Honda. My wifes 97 crv has 235,000 miles runs like brand new. Starts in any weather (-15 F anyone?) Make sure the timing belt/water pump were changed and the valves adjusted. Your question is odd..GAS mileage should be 40MPG..car mileage is different from gas mileage lol. If its an automatic change the AFT Z1 asap. Youre going to be doing a lot of maintenace if you plan on keeping it. For you idiots who think 177 is too much..you dont own HONDAS do you? The car is 14 years old! 177k /14 years is only 12K a year.
