Default Gas mileage problems on my 91 accord lx?

Ok I'm 17 and just bought my first car in august I'm not really sure if I'm getting bad gas mileage but it just doesn't seem like I should have to put gas in my car every other day. The car has 231000 miles on it but still runs strong and keeps fluids in it very well! I would just like to know some info on the car like recalls, common problems, and etc. Thanks.

You have no idea if you are getting bad gas mileage or not since you do not know what you are getting. Fill your tank to FULL and record the miles, drive it till at least 1/4 Fill again and record the miles and note how many gallons you put in.

Now divide the miles by the gallons.

Example

you drove 300 miles and put in 11 gallons

300/11=27.2mpg

Get it

After you do this compare with www.fueleconomy.gov. Does it get the same or close.

Make sure you note that freeway driving will get considerable more than constant city and idling driving.

No possible way to say from the information given. If you are driving 200 miles per day, filling up every other day is probalby normal. If you're driving 10 miles per day and using a full tank of gas, something is seriously wrong.

Fill the tank and make note of the odometer reading. The next time you fill up, note the odometer reading and the amount of fuel that it took. Use the difference in odometer readings and fuel used to figure the miles per gallon. If you drove 300 miles and it took 10 gallons, that's 30 MPG and about what you should expect on the highway at normal highway speeds.
