Default Are Bando timing belts a genuine Honda Product?

I bought a genuine honda timing belt/power steering belt online through the dealership but i did not look at them but they did have Honda packaging then i got my belts replaced at a local garage..

I noticed the power steering belt said "Bando 56992-plm-003"..

Very odd considering i gave the mechanics genuine honda parts not Bando belts.

Did they keep my genuine honda belts & put aftermarket belts in my car?

The part number is a genuine Honda part number.

Honda does not make all of the parts that go on its cars. No manufacturer does. The parts all come from suppliers that they contract with to make the parts. For example, look at the tires on your car. They can be Bridgestone, Dunlop, Yokohama or any other brand that meets the design specification that Honda put out to bidders.

I know that Honda also uses Goodyear belts as OEM (Original Equipment Manufacture) parts.

IF you're concerned that a mechanic "switched" parts on your car, don't be. There isn't any incentive for them to do so. Even if they were able to locally source a cheaper belt to switch with the honda belt, the cost difference is less than the cost of getting the belt from another supplier. Plus, think about what they would do with the 'new' honda belt--there isn't a ready market for them to sell to. So the last thing on a mechanics mind would be to try and make a buck swapping a power steering belt during a repair that a customer is paying for. I know there are trust issues with service people, whether in the car business or plumbers or any service industry. This is a case when the mechanic doesn't appear to have done anything to void your trust.

Hope that helps
