Default 1999 CRV

Newbe here........My daughters car started to idle a little rough. I changed plugs and wires. I also looked for a vacuum leak but none found. Then it started to stall constantly...took it to the mechanic and i have burnt valves.....i have heard of this problem before, does it happen often to a honda? Its gonna cost $1359 to get it fixed....glad i didnt take it to honda, probably be looking at $2500..........so what causes this problem and will it happen again? the CRV has 140000 on it....thanks Don
