there should be a bolt the size of the bolts that hold the wheels...

it should be in the exact middle of the pulley... if not, then it will be behind it.. check to see where your pulley is hanging from..

Because the water pump is driven by the timing belt the timing belt has to come off to replace the pump. That bolt in the center of the pulley is the big barrier - see the first source for the whole run-down on getting that off. Also read the second source for a great tip for changing the belt so the timing is right when you are done. Please read both write-ups completely to avoid grief, and don't use the starter to turn the engine unless the ignition wires are connected... it will damage the ignition coil. The second source includes a link to a basic pictorial sequence.

The water pump is always replaced with the timing belt, a pretty big job and should be left to a pro or at least someone with experience because this is a 5-7 hour job and if done wrong you will be repeating the job.

Hey there. i came up reviving this thread once again ( forgive me for that) but i guess you haven't solved the issue with your car up to know. let me share to you my personal experience. I have a leak on the front of the engine by the timing belt housing coming out of a small hole by the alternator. I assume it is a leaking water pump and i was right. Not that techie, i decided to consult a local handyman. he proceed to the diagnostic after doing some oops and oops. And to make the story short he asked me to purchase a new water pump for a $2000, B16A2 and a gasket. To date, the new one was installed and my car was running well. The pump wasnt overheating at all. If you have some free time , i suggest doing the replacement on your own. Don't experienced such thing but i guess it's quite easy as you follow the service manual for your car. But if you don't have such stuff, you are free to download PDFs on how to replace a water pump.Hope this little knowledge helped you.
