Honda Offers
TORRANCE, Calif. - Jun 29
American Honda Motor Co. Inc., has
been named as a Major Sponsor of RE/MAX's annual World Long Drive Championship,
with the final round of competition taking place October 18 - 22 in scenic
Mesquite, Nevada. This is the first year that Honda has participated in this
premier event in power golf.
"Honda is honored to be a part of RE/MAX's World Long Drive Championship,
one of golf's most unique events," said Tom Peyton, senior manager
of Advertising for Honda. "It is a perfect venue to feature some of our
newest products, including the new Accord Hybrid, which is capable of some long
drives of its own."
This year, Honda has added a special incentive to those golfers with the longest
drive in their respective category - a new Honda automobile. Champions
in three divisions - open, women and seniors (ages 45-55) - will
be given one additional drive to try and surpass the drive that helped them
win their respective division. If they do, the open champion will take home
a Honda Ridgeline truck, the women's division winner will get a Honda
Pilot and the senior division champ will win an Accord Hybrid.
"Honda's exciting and innovative idea will put an exclamation point
on RE/MAX championship week," said Art Sellinger, chief executive officer
at LDA (Long Drivers of America), the managing group for the 2005 RE/MAX World
Long Drive Championship. "One ball, one swing and one chance to win a
new Honda. If the new RE/MAX world champions can find another gear, so to speak,
he or she will be leaving Mesquite with a new set of wheels."
The 2005 RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship (WLDC) is regarded as the largest
international grassroots event for power golfing. Local qualifying rounds for
the 2005 RE/MAX WLDC began in February and continue throughout the spring and
summer at more than 400 venues across North America. Information on the competition,
which is open to both amateur and professional power golfers, is available at
