How often should one change his power-steering fluid?
I have 85,000 KMS on my 2003 CR-V. Do I really need to use the expensive OEM dealer fluid or can I get a generic brand? Also, do I just replace what's in the reservoir, or do I need to pump all the fluid out? Thanks! |

Use dealer fluid. I disconnect the PS return hose and plug in a 3/8"
OD hose. With the car raised just turn the steering wheel. Pumps most right out thanks to other posters. But for most people more frequent drain/refill of the reservoir should work. I have yet to see any manufacturer who recommends changing power steering fluid - ever. It can't hurt to change it unless you introduce contamination doing it, but if you don't have some reason to believe that its already contaminated, why bother? > I have 85,000 KMS on my 2003 CR-V. Its somehow different. > Also, do I just replace > what's in the reservoir, or do I need to pump all the fluid out? > > Thanks! > > With a CRV, you should be paying more attention to the dual-pump fluid and the brake fluid. They DO need to be routinely be changed. |
