I recently performed some work on my 91 Civic Si 5 speed. I changed
out the Alternator, Battery, CV axle. I had to drain the cooling system due to a radiator hose replacement. I have not yet refilled the gearbox the cooling system has been refilled. After installing the new battery, I attempted to start the engine. Prior to turning the key over all the way, the Check engine light (CEL) came on and off repeatedly and I was not able to start the car. The starter turned the engine fine but the engine did not fire. The crankcase is full of oil. Any ideas????? Bryant |

You will burn up the transmission VERY quickly if you allow it to turn when it is empty. The gears and bearings will turn even when the lever is in neutral. Secondly, did you remember to reconnect the ECU ground wire at the thermostat housing? Have you made sure the engine ground strap is connected between valve cover and rad support? Thirdly, you need to give some details on exactly what happens when you turn the key. You should observe the following: 1) Turn key to "II", a click is heard from the Main Relay above the hood release. The CEL lights up. Fuel pump is heard humming. 2) 2 seconds later, a second click is heard from the same location. CEL goes off. Fuel pump stops. 3) Turn key to "III" (start). The instant the key is turned to "III" there will be a third click from the Main Relay. Do you see exactly that? If not, what's different? -- Tegger The Unofficial Honda/Acura FAQ www.tegger.com/hondafaq/ |
