I am considering buying a used 2004 accord ex(24k miles). It is a
4cylinder automatic. I have heard accords have lots of tranmission
problems. Is it only with the v6's as I believe I read once? thanks.

Mostly the V6s. In any case, the tranny problems were fixed by the '04
model year.

I also kinda wonder how many of those "problems" were due to nobody knowing
how to properly check a Honda's AT fluid level.

That wasn't the case.

If it were, then every automatic transmission Honda ever built would
have been afflicted.

No, the incidences of auto trans failures from 98 through 04 were
incredibly high, much much more so than can be explained by "oh, but
suddenly come 1998, after years of automatic transmissions, nobody can
figure out how to check the fluid levels".
