Check your Owner's Manual. Your car is not a Mercedes or BMW; it does not actually sense oil condition. It computes oil life by considering mileage plus driving habits and ambient temperatures. And changing your oil early is *NEVER* a problem. The earlier the better. the Minder is there for those lazy slobs who would otherwise be tempted to take it to 10 or 15K. -- Tegger The Unofficial Honda/Acura FAQ www.tegger.com/hondafaq/ |

Go to Honda's own Techinfo site, here: https://techinfo.honda.com/rjanisis/logon.asp Choose "Owner's Manuals"from the menu at left (no login required). Navigate to your car. Your information is on page 196 if you have a sedan; page 224 if you have a coupe. -- Tegger The Unofficial Honda/Acura FAQ www.tegger.com/hondafaq/ |

Actually in at least one of the Honda manuals I have for a 2005 Accord
hybrid or a 2006 Odyssey (can't remember which one I read it in), it says not to do the first oil change early. Presumably there are special additives in the factory oil. Presumably there are special > additives in the factory oil. A 5000 mile oil change interval corresponds to the "Severe" service interval for our 2004 I4 Accord; so the oil change was not "early." Do you think there's any relationship between Honda's presumed "special additives" and Mobil's claim that Mobil 1 is "fully synthetic?" Same marketing team? > > "SS" <scottseifer@gmail.com> wrote in news:1164915529.343132.303580@ > > 16g2000cwy.googlegroups.com: > > > >> in reading other posts, it looks like i changed my oil a little early. > >> around 5k. snip |

I don't think a single sentence about not changing your factory oil early
buried in an owners manual constitutes an attempt at marketing anything.
