Any thoughts on replacement ignition coils (non-honda)?

Salesman here says that there's not much of a difference, because it's
"just a coil" of wire. Any truth to this?

it's a quality issue. honda coils that are integrated into the
distributor or are positioned over the spark plugs are "potted". the
quality of that potting compound and its density [no air bubbles] is
definitely a function of who manufactured it and therefore has an
influence on how long it's going to last. what do you save on
aftermarket, and is it worth the [lack of] peace of mind?

Sure it's "just" a coil of wire, and a steak is "just" a piece of meat.
They're all the same, right?

It certainly matters who made the coil. Go with jim beam's advice.

It isn't "just a wire". In fact, even a wire isn't just a wire.
Insulation, metallurgy and care of assembly all matter.

I would be comfortable with a well respected aftermarket brand name like
Denso, but wouldn't use just any old white box mystery part.
