Hello all.
I have a high pitched noise coming from my right rear of my 2001 Honda Accord V6. The noise is medium intensity and sounds like a squeal, kind of like the sound your CD player makes when it is skipping. It is a very shrill noise. I have disc brakes in the back by the way. This noise comes and goes while driving, and changes in pitch and intensity when I brake. The noise also only happens when I'm moving; otherwise, it is completely random. I checked my outer brake pad and it looks fine--the rotor is smooth on both sides. I didn't check the inner brake pad so I don't know if it is worn, but I would imagine that if it were worn, it would make a noise WHEN I braked, not the other way around. What is this noise? Thanks for your help, Josh |

Thanks for your help, > Check the inner pads. They're the ones with the squeal tab. Noises *can* occur when not braking and disappear once the pedal is touched. -- TeGGeR® The Unofficial Honda/Acura FAQ www.tegger.com/hondafaq/ |

Yeah, I too, have what I'd call a tracing rotational metal scrape even
on good brakes. Normally silenced by applying the brakes. Often silenced by turning hard in one particular direction. What do you suspect? Pad clips? Or more likely binding/drying caliper pins? Possibly pretty much any one or combination of the sliding parts are binding. It can also occur simply because the squeal tab is just beginning to make contact with the disc. When the hub/brake assembly deforms slightly under braking and steering stresses, the squeal tab barely makes contact. Whe you squeeze the pads on to the disc by stepping on the pedal, you force everything back into proper alignment and the tab is lifted off the disc. Either way, eventually the squeal will happen regularly and the pads will need to be replaced. -- TeGGeR® The Unofficial Honda/Acura FAQ www.tegger.com/hondafaq/ |
