I would like to know the OBD-II protocol for my Honda Element 2004
(build USA) in order to buy the proper scan tool (single protocol) for
OBD II.
I understood there are different protocols even for cars in USA.

There aren't. They're all the same.

However, the current mandated protocol is being superseded by something
called "CAN", which will be on all cars by 2008. Your Element is not CAN-
compliant.

Now the "enhanced" error codes (P1xxx, P2xxx, etc) ARE different from
manufacturer to manufacturer, so make sure the reader you buy covers those
codes.

In another group, somebody called "FordDriver" posted this:
"My Innova 3100 code scanner has 47 Honda specific codes as well as the
generic OBD II codes. The unit came from Wal-Mart at just under
$100.00. "

Thanks for your answer.

Here is the address to OBD-II device (for PC) I want to buy.
There are 3 devices, each support different protocol (as is mentioned
on site)

I suppose "ElmScan ISO Scan Tool" is what I wood need.
I do not want to by a dedicated OBD-II scan tool.

So you are right. And my own FAQ says so too, so shame on me for
forgetting. Honda uses ISO, of course.

You do need for your device to be able to read enhanced Honda-specific
codes. The site you reference does not appear to indicate either way.
