Default 2002 Civic Transmission Problem... solved!

I tried to respond to the other group with this same subject but it was
more than 30 days old since the last post, so I started this one. Just
wanted to let other people with the same problem know what to do. My
Civic has 90k miles on it and the transmission just died on me. Aamco
was going to charge me over $2,000 for a used tranny, or $3,500 for a
"new" one.

After reading this discussion group, I decided to call American Honda
at 800-999-1009 and they agreed to pay for the new transmission as long
as I took it to a Honda dealership. I had to pay for labor ($600) but
that's much better than the alternative! Apparently the Accord has
this problem a lot (the Service Manager at the dealership said about 6
out of 20 Accords), so they bumped up the warranty to 100k miles on the
transmission. But Civics also have the same problem, just not as
often. Anyways, the best thing to do if you run into a similar
situation is to CALL AMERICAN HONDA AT 800-999-1009. Should save you a
lot of money...

Hope this helps.

Hmmmmm....weren't they going to rebuild it?

I rebuilt the tranny on my 94 Lexus; $2300. Aamco did it. The only
thing they kept was the case; everything else inside was replaced. In
effect, it was a new transmission (although the law prevents them from
calling it that).
