Default Have you had your V-6 auto transmission replaced?

I just had the automatic transmission in my 2001 Accord LX-V6 replaced
under warranty. I'm at 90k miles, so I have only 10,000 more miles to
go before I'm playing Russian roulette with the replacement
transmission.

I'm curious for real life experiences or scuttlebutt on how long these
replacement transmissions are lasting and how many fail again.

I'm thinking that it's time to prepare to dump this car even though
otherwise it's in excellent shape. Don't want to face the very real
possibility of another replacement at my expense . . .

I'm at 162,000 miles on the original transmission on my '01 EX-V6.

Mine was replaced at 15K mi. on 99 Accord EX-VL. New transmission has
similar issue (surging while trying to maintain speed), but not nearly as
noticable. I'm at 82K mi. now and it's not getting worse - we'll see how
long it lasts.

Maybe you guys could comment on your driving style. I have a
suspicion that these transmissions may hold up for a long while if
you're gentle, but they don't take well to aggressive driving.

Actually, my transmission for the first 150,000 was driven pretty
aggressively, although almost exclusively highway. It is only recently (due
to A) too many tickets in a short period and B) heavy use of cruise control
due mainly to a back injury) that I've calmed down. The increase in gas
mileage I suspect will keep me calm for a good many years.

That's not at all encouraging. But at least you have another 23k miles
to go under the extended warranty.

I don't think that is true. I subscribe to the Jackie Stewart school
of driving which says that a passenger who is blindfolded should not
be able to tell when you transition from one state to another when you
are driving - i.e., they should not be able to tell when you start to
accelerate, decelerate, or begin turning or going around a curve, etc.
I doubt there are many who drive more gently than I do. I rarely
forced a downshift in my car and I never floored the accelerator . . .
but I lost a transmission . . .

The service manager at my dealer (large metropolitan area) told me he
has two guys who do nothing but replace transmissions all day . . .

It's DW's car - not driven hard.
