92 Accord with 200K miles, runs great, want to drive forever. Problem is
it ocassionally will not idle worth a darn, drops off and stalls. Will go away for months then return. Have factory m. and the idle woes all should generate a trouble code- none present. Any advice fellas-suspect a vacuum leak somewhere but can't seem to find one. The car runs excellent- 200psi on all 4 cyl, this things runs better and better, except this annoying, intermittent problem. Live in the SE so I doubt water in the gas. Thanks everyone! |

Does the stalling occur only after the car has been driven
20 minutes or so? If so, I would suspect the ignition coil. How old is yours? Is it OEM? Do check the level in the cooling system reservoir; top off per the manual; purge of air. Forty minutes may be required before the fan comes on twice during the purge procedure. (Have you had any work done on the cooling system recently?) The EACV (a.k.a. IACV) is also a candidate here. Length of time it will idle badly before dying? What happens if you try to help it with the gas? > Have factory m. and the idle woes all should generate a > trouble code- none present. You do not have an air leak. -- TeGGeR® The Unofficial Honda/Acura FAQ www.tegger.com/hondafaq/ |

Problem usually occurs when car has warmed up and its hot out. The cars a
stick- so I can come to a stop while revving the engine some- scary though. Will shut th ecar off and it runs super for months?! Last time it was messing up when first started. The car will start up with no problem. Have changed out he usual failings on the car main relay, distributor recall, radiator, master cylinders and booster. |

I recently experienced similar problems with my 1988 Accord LXi (original owner, 185K miles). Distributor vacuum leak detected, repaired: no improvement. Original fuel filter replaced: no improvement. Air (probably from failed hose repair prior year) purged from cooling system: no improvement. Main fuel relay intermittency detected, component replaced: no improvement. TW sensor intermittency detected, component replaced: problem solved. |
