Well my '90 accord needs a new muffler. I can't complain, it is
the original. Looking under the car I'm encouraged to see it is designed to fit the intermediate tailpipe with a bolted flanged connection rather than clamps or welds. Tempts me to buy a muffler and replace myself. Anyone done one of these. Should I expect that a thourough soaking of the nuts with liquid wrench will get them to break loose? Frank |

It is possible but unlikely that you'll be able to get them off any other way
the grinding them off. Be careful if you are going to cut them off as the bolts have springs loaded into them and the spring can cause some damage if they hit you. Make sure to get new springs, bolts and gasket when putting on the new muffler and do not buy a cheap aftermarket muffler (they'll rot out faster than the OEM). Usually if the muffler is shot, you b-pipe is close to going as well as they both go close to the same time. Hi Folks
We have two civics and they have the same type of muffler and I have always done the job myself. :-) However, Nick is right, the bolts are a real pain. What I usually do is I spray lots of lubricant a few days before and then they usually come off. Frank www.NGKPartFinder.com The best site to find the proper NGK product for your vehicle. |
